What are Nano Brows? How are They Different From Microblading?

It seems like the trend of big, bushy eyebrows are not going anywhere. Every year new techniques for achieving natural looking, prominent brows are discovered. You might already be familiar with microblading, powder brows, microshading, brow tattoos, but a new star is born – meet nano brows!

What are Nano Brows?

Nano brows or nanoblading is a brand new treatment, similar to traditional brow tattoo. However, this is a semi-permanent treatment, which means that the pigment does not go so deep under the skin. It also means that the pigment will fade after some time.

Nanoblading uses a conventional needle device. The needle is very thin and thus causing less stress to the skin. The final look is more natural and powdery.

How is Nanoblading Different From Microblading?

Nanoblading is said to be the new microblading. Even though the final outcome is the same, there are some differences. Let’s compare the treatments:

TOOL – Nanoblading uses a finer tool, which makes the treatment more precise and less painful. Nanoblading tool is a traditional machine with a tiny needle dipped into the pigment. Microblading uses ultra-fine blade.

PRECISION – Nanoblading is more precise, due to the tool used.

PAIN – Nanoblading is slightly less uncomfortable than microblading, because it causes less trauma to the skin.

HEALING – Nano brows heal faster than microbladed brows.

DURATION – Nano brows last longer than microbladed brows. With regular touch ups, the lifespan of microbladed brows is 1-2 years, whereas nano brows can last up to 3 years.

PRICE – Nano brows are $100-$200 more expensive than microbladed brows.

END RESULT – Nano brows look slightly more natural, even though there is no big difference in the final look.

What Does the Treatment Look Like?

Nanoblading is a two-visit-treatment. The initial treatment is usually 2-3 hours long. Firstly, it involves consultations with the artist. You will choose the shape and color together and the artist will draw your brows with a pencil to show you what they are going to look like.

Once you are satisfied with their look, the numbing cream is applied, to lessen the pain. Then, the procedure starts and the pigment is inserted into your skin with a machine.

After the treatment, you will be given aftercare tips and perhaps some ointment or other products that will help your brows heal faster.

The second visit, or the follow-up treatment is one after the healing period and is usually one hour long.

Is Nano Brows Treatment Painful?

As it was said above, the device with a needle is used for the treatment, therefore, it is likely that you will feel some pain. However, it is nothing like the pain involved with a traditional tattoo. Also, numbing cream is there to reduce the amount of pain. It is a little bit more uncomfortable than tweezing.

How Long Does the Nanoblading Healing Process Last?

The healing process lasts around 4 weeks. Your brows will be too dark and swollen immediately after the treatment. Don’t let that disappoint you – they will reveal their true color after they are completely healed. In the meantime, you will notice some scabbing and peeling. Also, some itching might be involved, but you mustn’t scratch your brows. Make sure you follow all the aftercare tips given.

What Does the Nanoblading Aftercare Entail?

Nanoblading aftercare routine involves strict rules that need to be followed in order to get perfect results:

  • Don’t wash your face extensively. You can clean it gently with micellar water, but keep your brows dry. In order to get rid of the bacteria, use cotton pads and a little bit of sterile water and gently wipe the area. Do this for seven days.
  • If it was recommended by your artist, use ointment to nourish your nano brows
  • Avoid using makeup for ten days
  • Don’t peel the scabs
  • Don’t scratch your brows
  • Try not to sweat a lot. Don’t work out in the first 24h.
  • Avoid saunas, swimming pools and exposure to the sun during the healing period

Do I Need a Touch-Up?

The first touch up, usually done 4 weeks after the treatment, is mandatory. It is there to give the brows final look after the healing process. If the pigment hasn’t settled perfectly during the first month, it will be added at the touch-up appointment.

Other touch-ups are optional. If you want to prolong the durability of your brows, you should book them regularly. The frequency of touch-ups depends on your skin type, lifestyle and beauty routine. These affect how fast the pigment will fade. If the pigment fades faster, then you should book a touch up every six months. Touch ups can help you have perfect brows for up to three years!

How Long Do Nano Brows Last?

It depends on different factors, but, on average, nanoblading lasts 2-3 years.

Dry skin, rather than an oily one, makes you a perfect candidate for nano brows and they will last longer. On the other hand, if you go swimming very often or do some sport that makes you sweat a lot, that will speed up the fading process. Also, if you expose your brows to the sun, they will fade faster.

How Much Does it Cost?

The average price of nanoblading is $500. The price depends on many things such as location, competition, the expertise of the artist, products and equipment used. Reputable artist charge more, which is totally expected. However, you can be sure that a job is well done if you leave it to a professional.

Low prices might be a sign of inexperience, so be careful when you choose a nano brows technician.

Can I Become a Nano Brows Artist?

If you are already in the beauty business, or you consider getting into it, introducing nano brows into your offer is a great thing, since its popularity will only grow. Make sure you complete a training and obtain a certificate. Also, invest in good equipment which will help you become a professional at what you do.
